ASA Club Brings Architectural Creativity to „Vladimir Nazor“ Center
The Association of Students of Architecture (ASA) - the only architecture-focused student club at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) - continues to actively connect architectural education with community engagement through creative activities beyond the classroom.
Founded in November 2024 by architecture student Nerma Hodžić, with academic mentorship provided by Assistant Professor Dr. Leila Krivošić–Dizdarević, ASA was established as a student-led initiative aimed at promoting architectural design and creativity among students and the wider community. The club’s mission is realized through a wide range of activities, including workshops, tutorials, screenings, lectures, educational trips, and discussions on contemporary architecture.
In line with the IUS club typologies, ASA operates across several fields:
- As an academic and educational club, ASA offers free professional training courses in architectural and design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, open to all interested students.
- Through its role as a community service club, ASA organizes hands-on creative workshops focused on architectural modeling, eco-design concepts, and educational outreach for young learners.
- Acting as a cultural club, ASA promotes awareness of the region’s architectural heritage and historical achievements.
- As a media and art club, ASA encourages students to explore and express their creative talents through exhibitions, visual storytelling, and interdisciplinary artistic projects.
Following its successful participation in the IUS Clubs Promotion Day, held at the Sports Hall on November 26, 2025, ASA attracted new members enthusiastic about engaging in collaborative learning, creativity, and community-oriented activities.
One of the club’s first major initiatives during the Fall semester was the organization of a creative workshop for children at the Education and Rehabilitation Center „Vladimir Nazor“. The workshop brought together pupils from 6th to 9th grade, who took part in imaginative, hands-on activities such as creating collage houses and 3D eco-plants. Led by club president Nerma Hodžić, with the assistance of ASA members Azra Porča and Tahir Kapetanović, the workshop encouraged children to explore spatial thinking, environmental awareness, and artistic expression in an interactive and enjoyable way.
All materials and tools used during the workshop were donated by ASA club members and remained with Centar Vladimir Nazor as a gift for the children to continue creative work in the future. Teachers and students expressed great appreciation for the visit and the workshop, highlighting the positive atmosphere and strong educational value of the activities. They also expressed interest in continuing collaboration with ASA on similar projects in the near future.
The ASA team looks forward to organizing additional community workshops, with the goal of involving a greater number of volunteers, donors, and young participants, while continuing to promote architecture as both an educational discipline and a powerful tool for social engagement.
