COST Action AtheroNET Concludes, Building on Years of European Research Collaboration
On 19 October 2026, the COST Action AtheroNET (CA21153) officially came to an end. Following this milestone, Associate Prof. Dr. Kanita Karađuzović-Hadžiabdić participated in the network's final Management Committee and Working Group meeting in Prague (2–4 September 2026), marking the end of AtheroNET, a European initiative focused on advancing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases through multi-omics technologies, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (ML/AI).
Dr. Karađuzović-Hadžiabdić’s involvement in AtheroNET continues an eight-year history of international research collaboration, which began with CardioRNA, a network in which IUS was an active partner and whose achievements included securing funding under the EU Horizon programme, COVIRNA (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101016072). AtheroNET built upon these established foundations, further deepening connections among cardiovascular researchers across Europe.
As part of these ongoing efforts, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) hosted AtheroNET’s 4th Management Committee and Working Group Meeting on 14–16 May 2025, bringing together over 75 scientists from across Europe for scientific exchange and joint work.
The final gathering in Prague provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on these shared accomplishments. Although AtheroNET has officially concluded, the partnerships built through the network are expected to continue driving new joint scientific projects and supporting further advances in European cardiovascular research.
