IUS ME Engineering Students Gain Firsthand Insight at Kakanj Thermal Power Plant

Students from the IUS Mechanical Engineering (ME) study program visited the Kakanj Thermal Power Plant under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Ismar Alagić from the IUS Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), and in cooperation with Dr. Anes Kazagić from Elektroprivreda BiH.

During the field trip, students learned firsthand about the technological processes involved in the production and transmission of electrical energy. They had the opportunity to observe how process-control equipment is used, how key operational parameters are measured, and how complex energy systems are monitored and maintained.

A particularly valuable component of the visit was the opportunity to gain insight into the ongoing flue-gas desulfurization project currently being implemented within Block 7 with the involvement of international experts.

According to Dr. Alagić: “For many students, this was the first time they were able to directly observe the power plant’s turbines, the main control rooms, and the full operational cycle of electricity generation within such a complex thermal-energy system.”

It was especially gratifying to see that the IUS student delegation had a truly international character, with many students from abroad experiencing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy infrastructure for the first time together with their local colleagues.

The University plans to continue strengthening cooperation with industry partners, with additional technical site visits scheduled in the coming period.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Elektroprivreda BiH for their warm welcome and to the IUS management for supporting initiatives that reinforce the important link between IUS and the business community.
