IUS and Sarajevo Historical Archives Sign MoU to Foster Research on Architectural Heritage
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Sarajevo Historical Archives and the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering academic collaboration and joint research initiatives.
The agreement was signed by Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı on behalf of IUS and Director Ms. Ismeta Džigal-Berkovac on behalf of the Sarajevo Historical Archives.
The ceremony was attended by Assist. Prof. Dr. Nerma Omićević, Architecture (ARCH) Program Coordinator, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adi Ćorović, who initiated the cooperation. The delegation from the Sarajevo Historical Archives included senior archivists Ms. Almira Alibašić, Ms. Elma Dervišbegović, and Mr. Saša Beltram, along with archival advisor Mr. Haris Zaimović.
During the meeting, the Archive representatives presented the institution’s activities and its extensive archival collections. Even prior to the formal signing, the collaboration had already been established through the course ARCH401 Architectural Heritage Conservation (Fall 2025/2026), taught by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adi Ćorović. Within the course, IUS students are conducting research on Sarajevo’s architectural heritage from the Austro-Hungarian period, with special focus on the works of architect Miloš Miladinović, whose projects were previously systematized and exhibited by Saša Beltram and Haris Zaimović.
Following the official signing, representatives of the Sarajevo Historical Archives toured the IUS campus and expressed their enthusiasm for future cooperation. Both institutions look forward to strengthening ties through joint research, exhibitions, and international projects dedicated to the preservation and study of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s architectural heritage.
